Cap

Conical to bell shaped, expanding with age, often with a central bump, fibrillose, yellow brown to olivaceous brown, to about 8 cm across

Crowded, deep blood red

Stem

Cylindrical, pale yellow, fibrous, basal mycelium carmine red

Flesh

Pale yellow, ochraceous in the stem base

Smell

Faint, of radish or iodoform

Taste

Slightly bitter

On soil, usually with pine, also reported with birch, oak and beech
